Pilot The Pointer
Our Puppy: Pilot
On September 16, 2020, we drove almost 2 hours to a German Shorthaired Pointer breeder. After we chatted for a bit, we got into our car with our new, 8 week old GSP!!!
When we got home, we immediately took him out back to let him go to the bathroom. We gave him his new toys and let him play. Though our grass is not hat long, pilot felt he had to take big leaps so that the grass would not touch him too much. We called him our little 'Prancing Deer!'
As you would expect with our family of 7, we could not agree on what to name him. It was bout 3 days after we had gotten him when my dad just decided that his name would be Pilot. I like the name and no one really hated it so it turned out great. Now, his name really suits him.
Because he is a hunter breed, he naturally learned how to slowly creep up o stuff. If you are wiggling one of his toys at a level he can reach (or even one that he cant reach), he will creep towards it, stalking it, and then all the sudden attack it! Its pretty scary when you're not expecting it! This tactic helps him hunt toys and shadows but when we take him to places that have big flocks of birds, he just runs wild chasing them. This tactic has helped him catch a bird that he injured and then just wanted to play with. He would stomp on it to try and get it to fly away but he eventually ended up killing it :(
As a really little puppy (he is 7 months now), we got laser pointer for him to chase. We only used it on rare occasion, though. We only really did it around 3 or 4 times for about 15 minutes. He is always looking for shadows. when watching movie in the dark, Pilot will just stare at the reflection it gives on the ceiling. To this day, he will randomly growl or bark while he is just staring at the ceiling. We don't know if it is because of the laser pointer or not but whatever it is, he is really interested in it.
Pilot also loves to hunt crickets. He and my mom will go out back at night and look for them. Recently, there haven't been many because of the temperature or something. Pilot even knows that when we say 'cricket!' he needs to run over and see where we are trying to show him!
Even though Pilot has A LOT of energy, we love him. he is a great dog and super fun to have around :)
*i ma trying to figure out how to get some pics posted of him soon*
